Leadership Geauga County appointed Pam Carson as its interim executive director following the resignation of Melanie Scanlon in December. Ms. Carson was chosen at a recent Board meeting from a highly qualified field of candidates.

“We are very happy with Pam’s selection,” board President Susan Kruger said. “We are confident that her extensive executive and nonprofit experience will keep the organization focused on our mission to develop and enrich an individual’s leadership skills to benefit Geauga County. Pam will continue to develop the Heritage Program for retired individuals, for its launch this coming spring.

“We are sorry to lose Melanie’s dedication and creative leadership,” Ms. Kruger continued. “She has made many valuable contributions to Leadership Geauga’s growth over the past five years and we wish her continued success.”

Highlights of Ms. Scanlon’s tenure as Executive Director include:

Enhancing Leadership Geauga’s efforts to give back to the community. Through the Emerald Ball and other alumni events, the organization has donated at least $28,550 to area organizations over the past few years.

Board and volunteer training through Geauga on Board workshops has connected and prepared alumni to serve on the boards of Geauga County nonprofit organizations.

Strengthening the content and delivery of the Signature Adult Program with the added privilege of working with five class years of outstanding leaders.

Securing multi-year funding, Leadership Geauga’s largest grant to date, from the Cleveland Foundation to develop the new Heritage Program.

“Although it is difficult to see Melanie move on,” board member Mark Halford said, “this reflects positively on Leadership Geauga. Not only did a Fortune 500 company actively recruit her from our team, but Melanie’s future role at Progressive will continue to expand the Leadership Geauga brand as the local source for developing community leaders.”

A search will be conducted beginning in January to fill the open position.
