Nearly 50 people packed the front entrance of the new Crumbl cookie store in Solon Square shopping center on March 17 to celebrate the official grand opening of the location, which is owned by the Bickerstaff family, including J.B Bickerstaff, who also happens to be the coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, his wife, Nikki, and his sister, Cydni.
While J.B. was not in attendance due to a Cavs game the same night as the event, the rest of the family, along with a staff of new employees, were clad in their Crumbl Pink shirts and jackets as they mixed, baked and frosted the gourmet cookies that have made this franchise one of the fastest growing in the U.S.
What’s so special about Crumbl’s cookies?
Well they are large, for one, and one customer, Jennifer Balli of Solon, said she was only buying two cookies for that reason.
“It’s just me and my husband at home now, so I didn’t dare buy more than one cookie each,” she said with a laugh. “I didn’t trust myself to limit it to one cookie if we have too many in the house.”
The Boyland family of Solon was taking advantage of a day off from school for students, and mom Margaret was treating her two girls to a celebratory cookie each.
“I once had the pink-glazed cookie and it was so amazing,” said 10-year-old Caitlin. “Today I am trying the brownie one.”
“I chose the milk chocolate chip,” said a confident 8-year-old Mackenzie.
“We are also going to bring some of the mint chocolate ones to a family party tonight,” said Ms. Boyland.
That party host was in for a treat.
Mayor Edward Kraus was on hand to help with the Solon Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“I have to tell a little story,” said the mayor who was clad in both a Cavs t-shirt and a green top hat for St. Patrick’s Day for this occasion. “I have probably done about 100 ribbon-cuttings since becoming mayor, and this is the first time my two adult daughters have come with me. They both told me, Dad you have to get a Crumbl in Solon.”
The mayor’s daughters, Rachel and Hannah, did agree it was their first time coming to a ribbon-cutting, but they also said they had hoped to meet the Cavaliers coach, as they are avid Cavs basketball fans.
As she cut a pink ribbon for the ceremony, Nikki Bickerstaff said she was excited to open the store in Solon, adding, “Solon has been so welcoming to us.”
Cydni Bickerstaff added, “I came here today and there were four people already in line outside before we opened the doors. I am so excited for the response we have had in Solon.”
As the cookies were flying out of the store in their recognizable pink boxes, the Solon community members were sharing why they are excited to have the franchise in Solon.
“They are just really special cookies, and I am excited to be able to come to a store right here in Solon to get them now,” said Ms. Boyland.
And with the chain’s changing flavors each week, she and her daughters said they would definitely be back again to try another flavor.
