The Kenston Board of Education, in a Jan. 18 special meeting, appointed Ryan H. Pendleton, through Northeast Ohio Educational Service Center, to the position of interim treasurer until the district finds a permanent treasurer. The district will pay the ESC $5,000 a month for the interim services.
Longtime Treasurer Paul Pestello submitted his resignation, which was accepted by the school board at its Jan. 9 meeting. To help find a successor, the district hired executive search firm Finding Leaders at no cost through its membership with ESC.
Mr. Pendleton will become the district’s treasurer of record on Feb. 1, and transitioning began this week.
“We are grateful for the services the ESC is providing us during this period,” board President Jennifer Troutman said. “Mr. Pendleton has a great deal of experience and brings along with him a team of experts to support the district. Business will continue as usual while the board conducts its search for the next treasurer.”
Mr. Pendleton started his career in public education in 2005 as assistant treasurer of the Barberton School District before becoming its chief financial officer/chief operating officer from 2006 to 2014. In 2014, he was named chief financial officer of the Akron School District. While there, he was honored as Ohio Treasurer of the Year by the Ohio Association of School Business Officials.
In 2022, Mr. Pendleton was named executive director of the North Coast Shared Services Alliance, which coordinates financial and operations support through the Educational Service Centers of Northeast Ohio, Medina, Lorain and Summit counties.
