Foundation receives donation

The Berkshire Educational Foundation, the fundraising organization devoted to the Berkshire Local School District, was the very proud recipient of a $125,000 donation from the Babcock family from Junction Auto to support the athletic amenities of the new Pre-K-12 facility.

At a special ceremony on Jan. 20 at Junction Auto’s main campus in Chardon, Ed and Cliff Babcock, Superintendent John Stoddard and Board Members Bryan Wadsworth, John Manfredi, Jody Miller and Mary Hipp accepted the generous donation.

Mr. Stoddard proclaimed this to be “a very proud day in the Berkshire schools.”

According to the Babcock Family, Mary Ann Babcock, who was the mother of Ed and grandmother to Cliff Babcock, taught English and literature at Burton High School, which later became Berkshire High School, for more than 30 years. The Babcock family made the donation in honor of her passion for the district, and the performing arts stage of the new building will affectionately be renamed the “Mary Ann Babcock Stage.”
