Third graders hike and study rocks

After spending a day at the West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township, Jordak Elementary School third-graders learned about the local topography from Geauga Park District naturalists. This fits with classroom lessons on geology, fossils and earth resources. Students investigated the sedimentary rock cycle’s role in the formation of local bedrock, topography and fossils. Students used a stream table and looked at various rock samples and geology exhibits. Then they got outside on a hike to Ansel’s Cave to view geologic and human features of a major bedrock outcropping.
