Legan named Principal of the Year
The Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators, known as OASSA, named Mayfield High School Principal Jeffrey Legan as the 2020 Ohio Principal of the Year.
“He truly is the quintessential high school principal,” said Superintendent Keith Kelly. “I cannot think of anyone more deserving, who represents the innate values of an educational leader and who is one of the most dedicated, resourceful and enthusiastic high school principals I have ever had the pleasure to work with than Jeff Legan.”
Born and raised in Mayfield, Mr. Legan is a 1994 graduate of MHS. He began his teaching career at Mayfield High School as a Math teacher, served as the math department chair and was later appointed assistant principal in 2007. He was named Principal in 2014.
“Mr. Legan has devoted himself to building a school team dedicated to the ambitious vision of personalizing each Mayfield student’s learning experience,” Dr. Kelly said.
Staff and students at Mayfield agree that Mr. Legan is deserving of the award, describing him as putting the school first and giving students a voice.
Each year, OASSA and the National Association of Secondary School Administrators, known as NASSP, sponsor an award for the Ohio Principal of the Year. The state recipient is selected by a panel of judges representing the OASSA Board of Directors. The Ohio Principal of the Year is recognized at the OASSA Fall Conference and is given the opportunity to compete for the NASSP National Principal of the Year.
