The Chagrin Falls Board of Education approved several new hires and authorized 2-percent raises for a number of administrators and exempt employees at its June 19 meeting.
Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives Christopher Woofter introduced the board to new middle school social studies teacher Marisa Conte and AP physics teacher Mackinzie Price.
A 2016 Notre Dame College graduate, Ms. Conte was selected out of 249 applicants for the job and taught seventh grade social studies and English at St. Anselm in Chester Township for the past two years, Mr. Woofter said. Her salary will be $49,485 annually.
“Marisa stood out because of her confidence, her growth, some of her screening scores and her teaching assessments, her creativity, her innovation and really some leadership skills she demonstrated in teacher service,” Mr. Woofter said. “You can tell she really understood the whole child and wanted to communicate and connect with kids and really has a heart for teaching.”
Mr. Price graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics and creative writing from Allegheny College and just completed a master’s of teaching program at the University of Pittsburgh. He formerly worked in the aerospace manufacturing industry with experience in machining, programming and engineering, Mr. Woofter said, and also gained knowledge of teaching mainstream and AP students during an internship at a Pittsburgh high school.
