The Kenston v. Mayfield varsity game slated to kick off this Friday is canceled after two high school football players from the Mayfield City School District tested positive for COVID-19.

Due to the novel coronavirus cases, Mayfield City Schools announced today (Aug. 26) that they have suspended their football season for freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams indefinitely, including play and practice.

The positive cases came following the results from diagnostic nasal testing, Mayfield schools said in a release. The district opted to cancel their season per the recommendation of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.

Mayfield Athletic Director Keith Leffler said in the release that he will continue to update players and families as more information is available.
