Hilltoppers honor teacher

The Chardon Local School District is saddened to learn of the Sept. 23 passing of faculty member Carla Nuti, 59, of Concord Township, and wishes to express heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

Known as Ms. Pearson to Hilltopper students and staff, she was a second-grade teacher at Park Elementary School. She had a 22-year teaching career, of which 20 years were with the Chardon district plus an additional year as a Title I tutor for Chardon schools. She also acted as a substitute teacher extensively for the district for several years.

“Remembering a special Park teacher, Ms. Pearson, and all her efforts over the past 20 years,” wrote Park Elementary Principal Rhonda Garrett on the school’s Twitter page on Sept. 27. “She touched many lives and had a very caring heart for others.”

Storytime with the superintendent

Superintendent Michael Hanlon made a surprise visit to two kindergarten classes at the Chardon Early Learning Center on Sept. 27. Students in the classes of Jenny Maheu and Laurie Heintz gathered together for the event.

Students listened intently while Dr. Hanlon read “The Napping House” by Audrey Wood.
