Senior services fundraiser run

Run 4theAges, a 5K run and 1-mile fun walk, will be held June 29 at Orchard Hills Park, 11414 Caves Road in Chester. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and run at 8:30 a.m.

Students and senior registrations are $15; adults $20. Same day registration is $25 per person. Proceeds benefit the Geauga Senior Services Levy. Register online at www.greaterclevelandxc.com.

HEAP offers cooling assistance

Geauga County Residents may apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program Summer Crisis Program to meet the cost of summer cooling at Geauga County Job and Family Services, 12480 Ravenwood Drive in Chardon from July to August 30. Eligibility for assistance is based on the emergency criteria and income guidelines. A household whose total income is at or below 175 percent of the current Federal Poverty Level guideline may be eligible.

Applicants will need to provide primary electric and heating bills, regardless of account status, physician documentation of medical condition, (if needed) proof of citizenship and Social Security numbers for all household members along with income documentation.

Application must be made in person. For additional information or to schedule an appointment, contact Geauga County Job and Family Services from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at 440-285-1299.

Safety council discusses medical marijuana

The Western Reserve Safety Council hosts a discussion on “Ohio’s New Medical Marijuana Law: How is it working now?” on July 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mustard Seed Health Food Market, 6025 Kruse Drive in Solon. Libraries closed for 4th of July

The Chagrin Falls, Orange, Gates Mills and Solon branches of the Cuyahoga County Public Library will be closed on July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. The branches will reopen on July 5 with regular hours.

Learn about Medicare options

The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) will answer questions about Medicare options July 9 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Orange Senior Center, 32205 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike. The free program includes 45-minute individual counseling beginning at 9:30 a.m. You must pre-register at 216-831-8600 ext. 5700.

Chagrin Contra Dance upcoming

Third Tuesday’s Chagrin Falls Contra Dance is held at Chagrin Falls Township Hall, 83 N. Main St., July 16. No need for prior dance experience.  Each Contra Dance is taught through simple instruction by dance caller Kenny Wilson. Introductory dance lesson starts at 7:30 p.m. and the dance is from 8-10 p.m. Admission is $8 for those 17 years and under, $10 per adult and $25 per family. Trip to Foundry Kitchen

The Orange Senior Center hosts a bus trip to Foundry Kitchen, Lorain’s newest restaurant, July 30 at 11 a.m. Dessert, coffee and soft drinks are included in the meal price. Meet at the OSC, 32205 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike, and a bus will drive you to the restaurant, returning home by 3 p.m. Cost is $60; registration/refund deadline is July 25.
