Hamlet presents artist lecture

Hamlet Village will present an artist biography lecture “Through the Eyes of the Artist” with Felicia Zavarella Stadelman, April 23 at 2 p.m. at Hamlet Club House, 324 Hamlet Hills Drive in Chagrin Falls. The lecture will cover the artist Alphonse Mucha whose work epitomizes the Art Nouveau Movement. Programs are presented with music and photographs and will journey into the lives and times of artists. Lectures are free and open to all but reservations are required due to limited space. “Middletown” staged at CVLT

On April 26, director Roger Atwell and a cast of 13 premiere Will Eno’s “Middletown” on Chagrin Valley Little Theatre’s intimate River Street Playhouse stage, 56 River St. in Chagrin Falls. The seven-show run includes Friday and Saturday evening performances at 8 p.m. through May 11 and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on May 5.

Tickets are $13 general admission at CVLT.org, by phone at 440-247-8955 or at the box office at 40 River St. 1-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Due to limited seating and road improvement work in the area, advance reservations and arrival are recommended.

Chagrin Arts opens up scholarship

For the third year in a row, Chagrin Arts will be presenting two $500 scholarships to two high school seniors whose activities have demonstrated a passion for the performing arts.

The Chagrin Valley Performing Arts Scholarship is open to students who live in the following communities: Auburn, Bainbridge, Bentleyville, Burton, Chagrin Falls, Chardon, Chester, Gates Mills, Hunting Valley, Moreland Hills, Munson, Newbury, Orange, Pepper Pike, Russell, South Russell, Solon or Woodmere. The Stephen G. Thomas Performing Arts Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

Students must be graduating high school this spring and be able to express their passion for the performing arts. Students do not need to be pursuing post-secondary education in the performing arts. Applications can be completed online via ChagrinArts.org/performing-arts-scholarship/. The deadline to apply is April 26.

The selected recipients will be notified via email and will be presented with the scholarship at Chagrin Arts’ annual “Fire Up! Performing Arts Bash” on May 15 at Pine Lake Trout Club in Chagrin Falls. Orchestra announces audition dates

The Cleveland Orchestra’s Choruses announced that auditions for the 2019-20 season will take place this spring. The Cleveland Orchestra holds a long-standing commitment to choral music in which community members of all ages have the opportunity to participate. Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and Blossom Festival Chorus auditions will be held on May 4, 5 and 9; the Cleveland Orchestra Children’s and Preparatory Choruses auditions will be held on May 20, June 5 and July 20; the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus auditions will be held on June 2 and July 13. Applications are also being accepted for the Shari Bierman Singer Fellowship, which provides assistance for two Cleveland Orchestra Chorus members pursuing full-time undergraduate or graduate-level studies in musical-related fields. Applications will close on May 2.
