NEOCAG meets for January

The NorthEast Ohio Computer-Aided Genealogy Society, Inc. (NEOCAG) will hold their monthly meeting on Jan. 9 via Zoom. The meeting opens at 9:15 a.m. with a presentation beginning at 9:45 a.m. The speaker will be Wally Huskonen, who will discuss the topic, “Collecting Death Certificates – Payoff and Pitfalls.” Following the presentation will be a questions and answers session and an open forum. NEOCAG is an educational organization for people interested in genealogical research using electronic means. They assist and sponsor programs concerning electronic genealogy for the general public. Meetings are open to the public and visitors are always welcome. Membership and visitors come from Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Summit and Ashtabula counties.

Hound hike at West Woods

Hikers can bring their dogs for a stroll through the West Woods from 1-2:30 p.m. Jan. 10. Meet at Turkey Ridge Shelter, 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell, and dress for the weather. Bring dog towels, a water bowl, poop scoop and bags for clean-up. One non-aggressive dog per handler on an 8-foot maximum leash at all times. Registration is required at 440-286-9516.

Lunchtime yoga in the park

Darlene Kelbach from Fairmount Center for the Arts will instruct adults or children age 10 or older in a lunchtime yoga session from noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 14 or Jan. 21 at West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell. Dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat and water bottle. Social distancing will be practiced and face coverings are required. Learn about radio astronomy

Learn the latest news from the field of radio astronomy and how you can join in science’s search for answers and visit a radio telescope near you during this virtual program from 7-7:45 p.m. Jan. 22 via the free software WebEx. Explore UFOs in Geauga

Geauga County resident Glen Frohring will share his UFO experience and information about other documented sightings as well as his personal theories during a virtual program from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 1. Nature break for women

Retreat to relax and re-energize from 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 in the Meyer Center, Big Creek Park, 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon. Activities include snowshoeing or walking, indoor aerobic activity and nature-themed crafts and lessons. Dress in layers with comfortable clothes for both indoor and outdoor activities. Pre-orders open for fish sale

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual Spring Fish Sale will be April 15 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the midway of the Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton. The district is currently accepting orders for fingerling-size largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill/sunfish mix, minnows, redear “shellcracker” sunfish, white amurs and yellow perch. Pond safety kits are also available. The order deadline is April 9. Visit geaugaswcd.com or call 440-834-1122 to obtain an order form and instructions regarding fish pickup.
