The Chagrin Hunter Jumper Classic has been canceled for this year because of limitations on gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic, board members stated in a press release.

The Chagrin Valley PHA Board of Trustees on Tuesday announced the cancellation of the event that had been scheduled for July 2 –12 at the historic Cleveland Metropark Polo Field in Moreland Hills.

In response to the mandate from Gov. Mike DeWine, the metroparks board has closed all of their facilities to rentals including the Polo Field, PHA officials said.

Many alternative options to hold the event were considered, PHA members said, but ultimately the committee decided calling off the event was best for everyone under the circumstances.

The health and well-being of the equestrian community is of utmost importance at this time, board members said. The board encouraged all of those involved to closely follow local, state and national guidelines.

Board members said they would like to have a smaller show in the fall if possible. The board is putting together resources for those employed in the equine community who need financial support.
