Sketchbook Club meets

May craft classes

Try a new craft this month at the Orange Senior Center, 32205 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike. No experience is necessary for any of these classes. Choose from Make Your Own Greeting Cards (Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.), Clay Goes Retro (Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.) or One Stroke Summer Herb Garden (Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. or Thursdays at 1:30 p.m.). WRSC safety awards

The Western Reserve Safety Council hosts its Safety Awards and Leadership for Safety Culture event, May 1 at 7:30 a.m. at Mustard Seed Market & Café, 6025 Kruse Drive in Solon. Solon Mayor Edward Kraus will speak, and member companies will be recognized for demonstrated safety performance through the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, as well as the people and initiatives that advance safety in their organizations including Safety Employee of the Year awards.

Chagrin library book sale

The Friends of the Chagrin Falls Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library hosts a book sale May 2-3. Members preview is May 2 from 4-6 p.m. with the public invited to shop May 2 from 6-8 p.m. and May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 440-247-3556.

Library art reception

Artist Dennis Mastrangelo will be exhibiting in May and June for approximately six weeks at the Gates Mills Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, 1491 Chagrin River Road, during normal hours. LifeAct holds annual walk at zoo

Suicide prevention nonprofit LifeAct is planning an Into the Light Walk, presented by PRADCO, May 5 at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, 3900 Wildlife Way in Cleveland. The walk provides an opportunity to learn more about suicide prevention and depression awareness education in a supportive atmosphere. LifeAct Trustee Loree Vick will host as emcee and master of ceremonies with keynote speaker Jeff Yalden. Registration opens at 6 p.m., gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the speaker, program and walk begin at 7:30 p.m.

Registration fees are $30 online and $35 on the day of the walk. Students will receive $5 off their registration by using the promo code STUDENT. Registration fee includes a light snack from Augie’s Catering, glow necklace, health and wellness expo and commemorative T-shirt. Music will be provided and a 1.2 mile reflective evening walk will follow the program. The event will be held rain or shine.

Chamber hosts elderly care fair

The Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce will host its first Elderly Care Fair May 7 at Chagrin Falls Township Hall, 83 N. Main St., from 5-7 p.m. The event is created to answer all the questions that a loved one may have when making the very difficult decision of where to call home for their loved one. Learn sign language

Learn the history and basic signs of American Sign Language, Wednesdays May 8 to June 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Orange Senior Center, 32205 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike. Students will learn the alphabet, nonverbal communication skills, finger spelling and beginner vocabulary. By the end of class, you will know the basics of a new language. WomenSafe lunch and presentation

Cleveland East Christian Women’s Connection holds a lunch and a presentation by WomenSafe, May 15 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Pine Lake Trout Club, 17021 Chillicothe Road (Route 306) in Bainbridge.  Come and learn about this important resource in Geauga County for victims of domestic violence. Dynamic speaker Paula Abbott will share a powerful story of overcoming rejection, abuse and addiction into a true story of victory. Business expo upcoming

Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts a Business to Business Expo May 15 at The Federated Church Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road (Route 306) in Bainbridge. Speed networking is held 4:30-5:30 p.m. at a cost of $5 including beer/wine. The main event runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Main event is free with a business card. 

St. Mark plant sale

St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road (Route 306) in Chester, hosts its annual plant sale May 17-19. The weekend begins with the garden party and auction from 7-8:45 p.m. on May 17. Tickets for the adult-only event are $10 each and include hors d’oeuvres and beverages. The plant sale is open May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and May 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Selected annuals, hanging baskets and more may be preordered and prepaid and will be ready for pick up May 17. CVHS herb and plant sale

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society presents the annual herb and plant sale, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bainbridge Library, 17222 Snyder Road. West G class reunion

The West Geauga High School class of 1999 holds its 20th reunion the weekend of June 29.
