NEOCAG meets

The NorthEast Ohio Computer-Aided Genealogy Society, Inc. monthly meeting will be held May 11 at the Mayfield Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, 500 SOM Center Road in Mayfield Village. Membership and visitors come from Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Summit and Ashtabula counties.

The organization hosts speaker Pamela Baster, manuscripts curator for the DAR Library, presenting “DAR Online Resources.” Following the main talk will be an open forum and a webinar. Learn Raspberry Pi

Chagrin Dems meet

The Chagrin Valley Democratic Club will meet in the main floor meeting room of the Chagrin Falls Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, 100 E. Orange St., at 7 p.m. on May 13. The club will discuss current events and strategies for the 2020 election. 

Free hearing screenings

The Orange Senior Center, 32205 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike, holds free hearing screenings May 14 from 9-11 a.m. This 15-minute screening is sponsored by Holly’s Hearing Aid Center. Spring and summer bird watching

On May 14 starting at 7 p.m., the Solon Historical Society, 33975 Bainbridge Road, welcomes the Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland to speak on “Ohio Spring and Summer Bird Watching.” Information about binoculars and bird field guides will be included, and bring a pie to share because it’s Pie Night.

Woman’s Club scholarship luncheon

The Chagrin Valley Woman’s Club will feature its annual scholarship luncheon on May 20 at The Tanglewood Club, 8745 Tanglewood Trail in Bainbridge. Senior high school students from area schools will be in attendance to receive scholarships from the club. Social hour begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. The public is invited to attend. Concerts at OSC

Orange Schools music programs present two free concerts at the Orange Senior Center, 32205 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike. The high school string orchestra performs May 23 at 3 p.m., and the Moreland Hills Elementary School fifth-grade choir performs May 29 at 11:45 a.m. You must pre-register, but the concerts are open to all. Auburn Memorial Day ceremonies

Memorial Day Ceremonies for Auburn Township will be held on May 26. A short ceremonial laying of the wreath will be held at Mapleshade Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m. the public is welcome to gather at Adam Hall Community Center, 11455 Washington St., for the “Reading of Names” ceremony coordinated with traditional observances. This year’s guest speaker is Auburn resident and Retired Master Sergeant Francis Gibbons. The final destination will be Shady Side Cemetery for the raising of the flags and laying of the wreath ceremonies. Residents are invited to join the township trustees for coffee and donuts after the ceremony at the Auburn Museum across the street from Shady Side.

Bus trip to Oak Barrel

The Orange Senior Center will take a bus trip to The Oak Barrel in Valley View, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meal choices include Amish chicken and waffles, chopped chicken salad or Ahi tuna tacos, and be sure to save room for Tahitian vanilla bean crème brulee. Coffee and soft drinks are included. Cost is $60 with a registration/refund deadline May 23. The bus will depart and return to OSC, 32205 Chagrin Blvd. in Pepper Pike. Auburn trash disposal day

Large item trash disposal day in Auburn Township is June 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents may bring their items to the Adam Hall Community Center, 11455 Washington St. No hazardous waste, building products, household garbage or yard waste will be accepted.

Nominal fee of $7 per car and small truck loads and $10 per large truck load will be charged. A maximum of eight truck tires (on and off rims) per household are accepted free.

Senior residents qualify for free item pick up service but must pre-register with Geauga County Department on Aging at 440-279-2130. Call 440-543-7028 or visit www.auburntownship.com for more information.
