Burgers and butterflies

Earn a free lunch while participating in the annual butterfly and dragonfly survey from 12-3:30 p.m. July 7. Use provided nets to capture specimens of butterflies and dragonflies, which will be identified by experts and counted as official data.

Bring the family dressed in long pants, closed-toe shoes and sunscreen. Each participant should bring at least one specimen back to the shelter house to earn either a burger or hot dog lunch.

Nights out with Foster Brown and Friends

Award-winning songwriter Foster Brown shares his musical talents during this audience-participatory concert of upbeat acoustic music from 7-8:30 p.m. July 6 at Claridon Woodlands, 11383 Claridon-Troy Road in Claridon.

Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating in the grass to enjoy memorable melodies in a family fun atmosphere. Refreshments will be served. The concert will be held inside if inclement weather. Call 440-286-9516 for more information.

CROP Walk Rally planned

The 2019 Greg Weemhoff Geauga County CROP Walk Rally and a Kick Off meeting will be held July 10 at Mountain Run Station, 12601 Chardon Windsor Road in Hambden. Materials and information about the walk will be distributed from 5-6 p.m., followed by a potluck picnic. Bring a dish to share and your beverage.

This is the 50th anniversary of the CROP Walk and 40th anniversary of Greg Weemhoff’s participation. Sponsors of walkers support a worldwide relief effort of Church World Service to supply food and water to people in need. Twenty-five percent of all proceeds stay in Geauga County to help the seven food pantries sponsored by the Geauga Hunger Task Force. Churches planning to participate are asked to send a planning team or representative to this kick-off meeting.

Geauga Walkers meet

Seniors enjoy a naturalist guided, one-plus-mile walk from 1-2:30 p.m. July 9 at the Closed Lake County Landfill, 7166 Brooklane Road in Chester. This walk is not wheelchair or stroller accessible.
