The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage will officially reopen to the public on Jan. 18 with the special event, “Hear Our Voices: Annual MLK Day Celebration.” The Museum will honor the legacy of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. with an all-day celebration, including free museum admission, virtual family activities and an online program featuring special guest David Pilgrim, founder and curator of the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State University in Michigan. Registrants are invited to take a free virtual tour of the Jim Crow Museum before the lecture and bring questions for Dr. Pilgrim at 3 p.m. via Zoom. VAC fundraises for 50th
Valley Art Center presents their “HotChocolate@Home – 50th Anniversary Celebration,” a virtual fundraiser to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
For several years, VAC’s annual fundraiser has been a month-long “non-attend” event, with supporters hosting small personal parties and sharing pictures or videos of themselves with the larger VAC family. This year, in accordance with COVID-19 safe practices, the art center’s annual fundraiser will be entirely virtual.
Supporters will buy a “hot ticket” online or in the VAC shop that will enter them in a drawing for door prizes and a certificate good for one free class at VAC. Additionally, if purchased by Feb. 5, all ticket-holders and donors will receive an invitation to the premiere of the virtual anniversary celebration. During this virtual gala, hosted by local television personality Jan Jones and Hotcards Managing Partner John Gadd, supporters will enjoy chocolatey cocktails, a valentine art project and the film premiere of “Art Finds a Way; Celebrating 50 Years of Making Life Beautiful in the Chagrin Valley.” Patrons can also “attend” the virtual party all month long with the purchase of a ticket or a donation to VAC any time during the month of February.
VAC has also pledged to match funds in honor of their 50th anniversary, meaning all ticket purchases and donations made through the entire month of February will be matched up to $25,000. For more information, updates and to participate, stop in, call to pay by credit card or check at 440-247-7507 or visit valleyartcenter.org/hotchocolate.
