Paintings on display at library

Bryan Zima will exhibit his paintings in January and February at the Gates Mills Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, 1491 Chagrin River Road, during library hours. A free artist reception will be held on Jan. 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. Call the branch for more information at 440-423-4808.

Arts open house

Fairmount Center for the Arts, 8400 Fairmount Road in Russell Township, invites everyone to their Winter Warm-Up Open House on Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. The open house is free and open to the community.

All ages can enjoy mini-workshops and performances in dance, art, music, theater and storytelling, then warm up with hot cocoa and sweet treats. Come make snowflakes and learn how to draw animals, participate in an introductory class in ballet, jazz and other dance styles, calm your mind with a mini workshop in yoga, explore playing the piano or simply enjoy listening to a story and special music performances.

The open house will have information on winter and spring classes, workshops and special programs ranging from one to 16 weeks long for all ages and ability levels. Winter and spring session classes begin Jan. 13.

Art history lecture

Fairmount Center for the Arts, 8400 Fairmount Road in Russell Township, presents the next program in their “Pull Back the Curtain” speaker series on Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. with art historian Felicia Zavarella Stadelman and her inside look at mid-1900s artist Andrew Wyeth.

The program is free and open to the community and includes refreshments thanks to the support of Toby and Melanie Maloney. While the presentations are designed for adults, they are all family friendly.

Satirical murder mystery

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre will be staging Joe DiPietro’s “Art of Murder.” This satirical murder mystery will keep audiences guessing about the identity of both the murderer and the victim. The play opens on CVLT’s Main Stage, 40 River St. in Chagrin Falls, at 8 p.m. on Jan. 17 and runs Fridays and Saturdays through Feb. 8, with one matinee at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26.

Friends of CVLT will be offering three pre-show happy hours at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 31 and Feb. 7. Local, well-known guest bartenders will tend a cash bar with wine, beer, soda and complimentary snacks in the lobby.

Tickets for “Art of Murder” are $19, with a $4 student/senior discount. Group rates for 10 or more people are available. Tickets and details are available at www.CVLT.org or by phone at 440-247-8955.
