Changing world of recycling

A specialist will discuss the changes in recycling practices at 10 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Chagrin Falls Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. Speaker Doreen Schreiber, the business recycling specialist at the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District, will discuss recent changes in the industry and the impact on residents and businesses. Bring an item or two with you if you are not sure if it can be recycled. The program sponsored by Patriots for Change is open to the public.

Friends hold book sale

The Friends of the Chagrin Falls Branch Library book sale starts today (Thursday) and runs through Saturday. All the proceeds support the Chagrin Falls Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library’s, 100 E. Orange St. in Chagrin Falls, programs and events. The sale starts 6-8 p.m. today (Thursday), and continues 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday is also bag sale day. For more information, call 440-247-5335.

Toys for Tots

The Laurels of Chagrin Falls Skilled Nursing is partnering with the United States Marines for their annual Toys for Tots campaign. The Laurels, 150 Cleveland St. in Chagrin Falls, is a designated drop off site for donations of new, unwrapped toys for underprivileged children.

Donations can be dropped off to the collection box in the main lobby seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Composer to be discussed

Case Western Reserve University’s Siegal Lifelong Learning presents Onstage with Kurt Weill, 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from Jan. 2 to Jan. 23 at the Landmark Centre Building, 25700 Science Park Drive in Beachwood. President of Music Critics Association of North American Don Rosenberg will discuss Mr. Weill who developed a successful career as a composer before he was forced to flee Germany in 1933. Mr. Weill arrived in the United States in 1935 and wrote the scores for Broadway shows and years. The course will cover Mr. Weill’s Berlin years and his achievements in America up to his death in 1950 at the age of 50.

Maltz winds down beta test

The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, 2929 Richmond Road in Beachwood, is nearing the end of its beta test phase for its Holocaust Survivor Memory Project. In partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation’s Dimensions in Testimony, local Holocaust survivor Stanley Bernath was turned into an interactive hologram that can answer questions and interact with the public.

The beta test version is available every Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 3 p.m. through the end of December. The experience is included with general admission at the museum.

Chamber hosts holiday party

The Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce’s holiday party will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Lowe’s Greenhouse, 16540 Chillicothe Road in Bainbridge. There will be an ugly holiday sweater contest, music, light appetizers, beer, wine, networking and silent auction. Cost is $5 per person, and funds will be donated to the Bainbridge Food for Friends.
