Rosella "Monk" Schendel

Rosella “Monk” Schendel (nee Graham), passed away peacefully on January 6, 2020, one week before her 90th birthday. Devoted wife of the late Walter G. Schendel for 47 years; beloved mother of John G. Lamb, Martha H. Dotson (nee Schendel) (Allan), Elizabeth “Randy” Roach (nee Lamb) (Michael), and Jerry Schendel; loving grandmother of Taylor Schendel and Ryan Schendel, Virginia Dotson and Brian Dotson; great-grandmother of four; loving aunt of Martina “Tina” Creger (nee Graham) (Jimmy), and a treasured friend to many.

Monk was born in Alexandria, Virginia to Robert and Rosella Graham and was a graduate of Marymount College. Her long career as an English teacher and junior high school librarian in Virginia Beach, VA allowed her to support some of her greatest passions in life: a love of books and learning. Always curious and ever compassionate, Monk lived her life with a love and devotion to animals and was a kind friend to all living things, never failing to lend a helping hand if she could. She will be remembered for her humor, compassion, her love of nature and animals, and her strong and fierce spirit will live on.
