
JOHN LEWIS EBERLY
John Lewis Eberly of Chagrin Falls, OH died peacefully on September 1, 2021, a few weeks before his 100th birthday. He was born in Decatur, IL on October 22, 1921, the son of Emmett and Clara Eberly. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne Andre Eberly whom he married on June 15, 1946. He leaves his daughter Carol Theis of Aurora, OH, and sons John A. of Auburn Township, OH and Mark H. (Deborah) of Carmel, IN. He also leaves grandchildren Lindsay Spigel (Kevin), Zachary Eberly (Gina), Meaghan Eddy (John), Ross Eberly, Eric Eberly (Karen), Jessica Vanek (Andrew), and great-grandchildren: Dominic, Mia, Enya, Leo, Nathan, Greyson, and Morgan. He attended Millikin University and the University of Cincinnati before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. After being trained at UCLA as a meteorologist he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and served for two years in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of First Lieutenant and then graduated from the University of Illinois Engineering School. He worked in product development for Alcoa, and served as Chief Engineer at Hubbard Aluminum Products and Thompson Electric Company before establishing his own company, EBCO, Inc. from which he retired. During his married life he lived in Pittsburgh, PA, Solon, OH, and Bainbridge, OH. He and Jeanne spent over 20 years living in Indian River Shores, FL enjoying their retirement with new friends and entertaining old friends and family that visited. He returned to the Cleveland area in 2013 and moved into South Franklin Circle in Chagrin Falls, OH where he was living at the time of his death. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls, OH on Saturday, October 23rd at 2:00 PM. A reception will immediately follow. His ashes will be buried in John’s Island Cemetery in Indian River Shores, FL at a later date.
