Arbordale Avenue residents are fed up. Homeowners filled Solon City Council chambers earlier this week to complain about the $1.83 million road project with no end in sight.

Resident James Rothenberg told council that the street is a mess and, “somebody needs to help us.”

The street is in a state of disrepair and some residents have to park at the nearby grocery store lot. Driveway aprons are torn up. And with no lights, Arbordale is eerily dark at night. Communication from the city, one resident said, needs to be better.

This isn’t the only time residents have complained about road construction in Solon. Popular digital platforms have been abuzz for months about the SOM Center and Aurora roads intersection project. We’re finally seeing some progress on that project, but a glance of the surrounding landscape shows there still is much work to be done.

City officials need to do a better job of communicating both progress and problems with residents. Give us periodic updates. We’d really appreciate it.
